Our mission is to make every story accessible to every student

PictoPress was built on a straightforward belief: the educators and therapists who support students with communication, language, and learning needs should not have to choose between quality and affordability. Creating symbol-supported books and visual materials should be fast, simple, and within reach for everyone — not just those with access to expensive specialist software.

What we stand for

The principles behind every decision we make.

Every Student Deserves Access

We believe that no student should be left out of a story because the materials are not accessible. PictoPress exists to close that gap — affordably and simply.

Built for the People Who Know Students Best

Teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and caregivers shaped every feature. PictoPress fits into real workflows without adding complexity.

Always There When You Need It

Your materials autosave to the cloud so you never lose work. Access your projects from the classroom, the therapy room, or home — on any device.

Smart Tools, Simple Interface

AI-powered features like background removal help you create clean, distraction-free symbol visuals quickly — without needing any design skills.

A Shared Resource Community

The Resource Library lets educators and therapists share adapted materials with one another. Good work multiplies when it is easy to share.

Flexible for Every Setting

Whether you are adapting a single book for one student or building a library of resources for an entire school, PictoPress scales to fit your needs.

Our story

PictoPress is a product of Specialty Medical Response and Transportation, LLC ("SMRT"), a company committed to building practical technology solutions for the people who need them most. PictoPress grew out of a clear and recurring problem: educators and therapists working with students who have communication, language, and learning needs — including AAC users — were spending hours in complex, expensive software just to add picture symbols to a simple story.

We saw speech-language pathologists hand-cutting symbols and taping them onto photocopied pages. We saw special education teachers staying late to adapt a single book for one student. We saw parents searching for ways to support their child at home without the tools or training that professionals have. The barrier was not skill or motivation — it was access.

So SMRT built PictoPress: a platform where the technology gets out of the way and the student's needs take centre stage. With an intuitive drag-and-drop editor, cloud saving, AI tools, and a growing shared resource library, PictoPress is designed to be the most accessible and affordable tool available for creating symbol-supported books and visual materials — for the educators, therapists, and caregivers who make a difference every day.
